The spectrum of electromagnetic waves in a magnetized gaseous plasma layer. Part 1. Wave dispersion

Abstract: A numerical investigation of wave propagation in a magnetized plasma layer is performed. Four families of waves can propagate: plasma, cyclotron, anisotropic and waveguide modes. It is shown that the singular waves propagate at the crossing points of the waves with the complex zone boundary. The influence of the interface, the layer width and the magnetization of the plasma on the spectrum of the waves is analysed.

“…they can propagate only along one direction); thus only ASW with m > 0 can propagate at the LF range ω < ω 1 and only meaning m < 0 can be realized for ASW at the HF range ω > ω 1 . Therefore, analyzing expressions (7) and (8), one can make the conclusion: if plasma density increases in the direction toward the plasmas' border then the ASW frequency value diminishes as compared with the case of uniform plasma density profile.…”

“…Research into SW properties is underway at the present time. It would be useful to indicate, for instance, that spectrum of electromagnetic waves in a magnetoactive gaseous plasma layer is studied in detail in the paper [8]. Dispersion relation for electromagnetic SW in a magnetoactive annular plasma column located in a coaxial metal waveguide is under consideration in [9].…”

“…Surface modes on a magnetized plasma have been investigated in the context of fluid equations [7][8][9][10], but kinetic theory of surface waves in magnetized plasmas is rather few. In Ref.…”
