The spatio-temporal specificity of PYR1/PYL/RCAR ABA receptors in response to developmental and environmental cues

Abstract: From the different functions ABA exerted between the aboveground and belowground, seed and vegetative tissues, primary root and lateral root, stimulating stomatal closure and inhibiting stomatal opening, between young and senescence leaves in stomatal movement, among different cells in plasma membrane water permeability, we addressed the organ-, tissue-, cell-, physiological processes-, and development stage specificities of PYR1/PYL/RCAR ABA receptors. This specificity may reflect the spatio-temporal properti… Show more

“…Depending on the previous occurrence of accumulated age‐related changes, the leaf can integrate environmental cues, which, if adverse, will induce the onset of senescence. The role of the rise of ABA contents and ABA signalling changes during leaf senescence is less clear (Sun et al ., ; Zhao et al ., ). ABA is involved in both developmental processes and stress responses (Finkelstein, ).…”

“…In the future, the further characterization of the downstream signaling molecules of LbPP2Cs and LbSnRK2s, followed by exploration of the LbPYL–LbPP2C–LbSnRK2 combinations, will greatly advance our understanding of LbPYL–mediated ABA signaling in Lycium plants, as complicated combinations have been shown in Arabidopsis , maize, and tomato [ 9 , 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 ]. Moreover, establishing an efficient CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing system for L. barbarum will greatly accelerate the genetic improvement of L. barbarum for climate adaptation, such as LbPYL10 .…”

“…RCAR2/PYL9 overexpression conferred drought resistance by promoting ABA-mediated leaf senescence ( Zhao et al., 2016 ). This suggests that RCARs have distinct functions, which are associated with different tissues, developmental stages, and specific environmental conditions ( Sun et al., 2017 ). However, non-redundant functionality of RCAR in an ABA-dependent and/or ABA-independent manner remains to be elucidated.…”
