The spatial distribution characteristics of typical pathogens and nitrogen and phosphorus in the sediments of Shahe Reservoir and their relationships

Abstract: Using samples collected in Shahe Reservoir in the upper North Canal in China, this research analyzes the structure of a microorganism group in sediment and the absolute abundance of two typical pathogenic bacteria (Escherichia coli and Enterococcus), and their relationship with environmental factors including total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP). The study of samples collected from the surface (0–20 cm) and sediment cores shows that the absolute abundance of E. coli in horizontal distribution in the s… Show more

“…Soil total carbon (TC) and total nitrogen (TN) were measured by an elemental analyzer (Vario PYRO Cube, Elementar, Germany). Soil total phosphorus (TP) was analyzed according to the Standards, Measurements, and Testing (SMT) methods ( Ruban et al, 2001 ; Sun et al, 2021 ; Appendix S1 ). Three parallel samples were provided for quality control.…”

“…With the enhancement of sewage interception capacity and treatment capacity in the upstream and surrounding areas of the reservoir, point source and non-point source pollution will gradually be effectively controlled, and the nutrient salt in the reservoir sediment may have a potential risk of release, becoming a potential source of eutrophication in the reservoir. endogenous contamination [23][24].…”

“…The sequencing platform was Illumina MiseqTM. For Miseq paired-end sequencing data, the primer-linked sequences (TGG AAT TTC TCT GGG TGC CCA AGG AACTC) were rst removed, and then the paired reads were spliced into one sequence according to the overlap between PE reads, and the sample data were distinguished according to the individual sequences of the samples, and nally the quality of each sample data were quality-controlled ltered to obtain valid data for each sample [23].…”
