Bu araştırmada, 1920 yılından bu yana Türkiye'de organize edilen önemli bir kültürel Mega etkinlik olan 23 Nisan Ulusal Egemenlik ve Çocuk Bayramı'nın, Ankara turizmine olan katkısının değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin toplanmasında anket tekniğinden yararlanılmıştır. Anket soru formunda Beşli Likert Ölçeğinde 30 soru yanında, bir adet açık uçlu soruya yer verilmiştir. Araştırma, Ankara'da 23 Nisan 2020 ile 25 Nisan 2021 tarihleri arasında ve toplam 407 katılımcı kapsamında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Anket sonucunda elde edilen veriler; faktör analizi, bağımsız örneklem T testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) ile test edilmiştir. Açık uçlu soruda ise içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, bu Bayramın Ankara turizmine kültürel, ekonomik ve sosyal boyutlarda katkılarının olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bayramın kültürel ve sosyal katkısına yönelik algılarda katılımcıların yaş aralığına göre farklılık bulunmuştur. Covid-19 pandemisi ile ilgili algıların yer aldığı açık uçlu soruya verilen cevaplarda ise katılımcıların, turizm ve tanıtım teması ile Covid-19 pandemisi üzerinde yoğunlaştıkları, bu dönemde katkılardan ziyade ekonomik, kültürel ve sosyal kayıpları dile getirdikleri görülmüştür.

South Africa's hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ came at a time when countries and cities worldwide increasingly compete for this sought-after status. The benefits and challenges of such an event have received significant attention among researchers and practitioners alike. No tourism destination is guaranteed long-term competitiveness by being offered the once-off opportunity to host a major international event. This study aimed to determine whether a mega-event would make a greater or lesser contribution to the long term competitiveness of the host destination given the extent to which it was being addressed at a strategic level. Existing literature on destination competitiveness and mega-events was studied to identify relevant issues that would have to be addressed at this level. Primary and secondary qualitative data was collected from a host city on the eve of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ to place these issues into perspective. The empirical findings indicate how a mega-event can contribute to the competitiveness of a destination if it forms part of a broader event strategy; if the necessary leadership is in place; and stakeholder roles have been clarified.
