“…Unfortunately, the only stress-related parameter that was influenced by nature sound (i.e., cortisol recovery, not its reactivity or the other biomarkers) was not logically correlated with the diet variables. Also in contrast with our hypothesis, comforting sounds might not lead to less stress-induced comfort food eating but rather to more comfort food eating due to this comfort-congruent situational factor (Mathiesen, Moula-Stahli, et al, 2022). For some of the other mentioned potential mechanisms underlying sound-induced eating behavior, the evidence level is still rather low.…”

“…Since the same wind sound was also mixed into the bird and water sounds, the current study is rather showing the additional benefit of bird and water sounds above that of wind sounds. In selecting the control, an active control was preferred since total silence might be more influential on stress (Shu & Ma, 2020) and meal duration (Mathiesen et al, 2022) than ambient noise due to non-distraction from the experienced stress or due to boredom, although beneficial effects of nature sound versus silence have sometimes been found (Largo-Wight et al, 2016). Based on a systematic review, the health and stress effects of nature sounds seemed smaller in studies using silence as a control instead of noise (Buxton et al, 2021).…”

“…There are two different types of sounds used. Music, which is known to influence human emotions (Russell, 2003), and silence, which was previously used in other experiments to examine how different sound environments affect meal times, food intake, as well as responses to sonic dining environments (Mathiesen et al, 2022).…”

“…Two types of sound will be used for this research, which are music that is known for its effect on human emotions [11], and silence which was used in an experiment designed to see how diverse sound environments affect meal time, food intake, and evaluations, as well as responses to the sonic eating environment [27].…”
