The Solubility of TcO2 · nH2O in Neutral to Alkaline Solutions under Constant pco2

Abstract: We have investigated the solubility of Tc0 2 • nH 2 0 in aqueous solution as a function of pH and p c o 2 · The experimental data collected shows that the solubility of Tc0 2 · nH 2 0 increases with increasing pH and hydrocarbonate concentration.By studying the dependence of the solubility on the pH and Pco 2 we have determinated the stoichiometry and stability of the predominant aqueous complexes: TcO(OH) 2 (aq), TcO(OH)J, Tc(0H) 2 C03 and Tc(OH) 3 CO;\ The behaviour of Tc(IV) in natural water systems is disc… Show more

“…Technetium, reduced by hydrazine to Tc(IV), forms the hydroxo compound TcOs.nHzO. The solubility of Tc(IV) hydrous oxide in alkaline solution increases from loq7 M in 0.01 M NaOH to 3x105 M in 4.0 M NaOH Eriksen et al 1992). As shown in Section 3.3.1, solid sodium uranate in alkaline suspension is partially reduced by hydrazine in the presence of technetium to form U308-nH20 or U02-nH20.…”

“…nH20 hydroxide in pH 7 to 10 solution in the absence of oxidants and complexing agents is lo-' to 10-*M. 'The solubility increases significantly with increasing pH (Eriksen et al 1992). In 1.0 to 3.6 M NaOH containing 0.02 M N2H4 and in the presence of air, the solubility of TcO,.…”

“…In acid and in the absence of oxidants, nitrate, and nitrite, the reduction of technetium to TcO,. nH20 and further to 2.2 metal is possible (Spitsyn and Kuzina 1981;Eriksen et al 1992). The reduction of Tc(VII) to Tc(IV) and the subsequent electrodeposition of TcO,.…”

“…In carbonate-containing groundwaters, TcO(OH) 2(aq) is dominant at neutral pH; at higher pH values, Tc(OH) 3 CO 3 -is more abundant (Erikson et al, 1992). However, the solubility of Tc(IV) is low and is limited by precipitation of the hydrous oxide, TcO 2 x nH 2 O.…”
