The goodness-to-fit for the multiple regression models were much higher for all the combinations analysed in cohort 1 than in cohort 2. In cohort 1 the R 2-values ranged from 0.3510 to 0.4906 for log MAXMINHAUC and 0.3284 to 0.4500 for log MAXMINHRP. In cohort 2, they ranged from 0.1675 to 0.2163 for log MAXMINHAUC, and 0.1706 to 0.2191 for log MAXMINHRP. The combinations with the highest R 2-value for multiple linear regression analyses were similar in cohort 1 and 2. The only individual variable which was significant in all the multiple linear regression combinations for cohort 1 and 2 for both log MAXMINHAUC and log MAXMINHRP was LEFT KIDNEY TO BACKGROUND RATIO. RIGHT KIDNEY TO BACKGROUND RATIO, RIGHT RENAL MARGINS WELL DEFINED, RIGHT RENAL MARGINS POORLY VISUALISED and TIME VISUALISATION RIGHT CALYCES were significant in most of the combinations analysed. A high kidney to background ratio, RIGHT RENAL MARGINS WELL DEFINED and higher AGE predicted a good reproducibility. A low kidney to background ratio and later TIME VISUALISATION RIGHT CALYCES predicted poor reproducibility. The variables LEFT RENAL AREA, LEFT BACKGROUND AREA, BOTH RENAL MARGINS SMOOTH and RIGHT RENAL MARGINS IRREGULAR were not-significant in any combinations analysed cohort 1 and 2 for both log MAXMINHAUC and log MAXMINHRP. The remaining variables inconsistently predicted reproducibility in log MAXMINHAUC and log MAXMINHRP for both cohort 1 and 2. Conclusion: The only variables which consistently predicted good and poor reproducibility for the measurement of DRF on 99m Tc-MAG3 renograms performed according to the EANM guidelines for both log MAXMINHAUC and log MAXMINHRP were AGE, LEFT KIDNEY TO BACKGROUND RATIO, RIGHT KIDNEY TO BACKGROUND RATIO, RIGHT RENAL MARGINS WELL DEFINED and TIME VISUALISATION RIGHT CALYCES. Consideration should be given to incorporating the kidney to background ratio into the renal processing screen display as a valuable quality control step. The DRF values should be interpreted with caution if the kidney to background ratio is < 2.0.

Background To investigate the changes in ultrasonic measurements of nonreflux upper urinary tract dilation in infants with febrile urinary tract infection (UTI).Methods There were 28 cases of nonreflux upper urinary tract dilatation with febrile UTI: 14 cases of ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) (14 kidneys) and 14 cases of ureterovesical junction obstruction (UVJO) (16 kidneys). Changes in anteroposterior renal pelvic diameter (APD) and ureteral dilatation during infection and after infection were compared in UPJO and UVJO patients, respectively.Results In the UPJO with febrile UTI group, the APD was 24.1±10.0 mm at the time of UTI and 16.6±7.0 mm 1 week after infection recovery (P<0.001). In the UVJO with febrile UTI group, the APD was 19.3±8.5 mm at the time of UTI and 15.2±7.7 mm 1 week after infection recovery (P<0.001). In the UVJO with febrile UTI group, the ureteric diameter was 11.0±3.2 mm during UTI and 6.8±2.6 mm 1 week after infection recovery (P<0.001).Conclusions In UPJO patients, the APD decreased after febrile UTI treatment compared with that during infection. In UVJO patients, the APD and ureteric diameter decreased after febrile UTI treatment compared with that during infection.

Purpose To compare the prevalence of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), febrile urinary tract infection (fUTI), and chronic kidney disease (CKD) among patients with multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK) diagnosed by renal scintigraphy (RS) versus follow‐up renal ultrasound (RUS) alone. Methods This was a retrospective review of patients seen at a tertiary care center from 2010 to 2020 with MCDK diagnosed by RS or follow‐up RUS. Differences in the prevalence of VUR, fUTI, and CKD by cohort were assessed using logistic regression analysis, Pearson X2, and Fisher's Exact tests. Temporal trends in diagnostic methods used (RUS versus RUS + RS) were evaluated using the Cochran‐Armitage trend test. Results One‐hundred seventy‐two patients were included: 50% (n = 86) underwent RUS + RS and 50% (n = 86) underwent RUS alone to diagnose MCDK. Prevalence of VUR, fUTI, and CKD did not significantly vary between groups. Among patients who had a VCUG, 4.4% had contralateral VUR (1.7% RUS + RS group; 7.4% RUS group; p = 0.19) and 14.5% had at least one fUTI (16.3% RUS + RS group; 12.8% RUS group; p = 0.52). Females were significantly more likely to have at least one fUTI (p = 0.04). Four patients (2.3%) developed CKD, all in the RUS + RS cohort (p = 0.12). Diagnosis of MCDK by RUS versus RUS + RS did not significantly vary over time (p = 0.17). Conclusion Patients with unilateral MCDK confirmed by RS versus RUS alone do not significantly vary in the prevalence of VUR, fUTI, or CKD. Renal scintigraphy studies may not be necessary in unilateral MCDK diagnosis but continue to be used.
