In the face of the growing demand for maritime transportation in the global economic context, ports are under increasing pressure from stakeholders to enhance their operational effectiveness and address environmental issues such as air and water pollution and inherent energy and security challenges. The transition to smarter and environmentally responsible ports is perceived not only as a choice but a strategic necessity, considering the multifaceted demands of the current global landscape. The Sustainable Development Goals offer a comprehensive framework to guide this evolution. In the Brazilian context, this paper aims to explore the impact of emerging technologies on the sustainability of Brazilian port industry. The research explores how such technological advancements influence the sustainability of the Brazilian port sector, considering their potential to drive sustainable practices and enhance operational efficiency. The study focused on Brazilian ports and terminals with the highest cargo volumes, including a sample of 23 port entities. The methodology adopted consisted of content analysis of sustainability reports published by the study's companies. An analysis of the sustainability reports of Brazilian ports and terminals reveals a diversity of technologies in continuous application. Technologies such as cameras, radar systems, artificial intelligence, and vessel traffic services, among others, are assuming multifaceted roles encompassing environmental monitoring, maritime traffic management, operational optimization, and security assistance. These technological advancements bolster the efficiency and safety of port operations and contribute significantly to sustainability efforts by facilitating early issue detection and mitigating environmental impacts. Furthermore, they create a pathway for the integration of emerging technologies like the Internet of Things and machine learning, offering the promise of additional efficiency gains and innovative solutions within the port sector.

In recent years, the need for innovative and sustainable infrastructures has increased in order to comply with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In that sense, due to the large flow of goods worldwide and the impact produced by foreign trade operations, smart ports have positioned themselves as one of the catalysts of development and economic growth of multiple countries, as they support trade flows and an ecosystem of related activities. In addition, the digitization of ports produces a huge amount of information that makes them more profitable, efficient and sustainable. As such, smart ports, through the implementation of technologies such as the Internet of Things, blockchain and artificial intelligence, manage to improve the efficiency of port operations. In this regard, this research aims to determine the current research results of the development of smart ports for the achievement of SDG9 globally for the period 2015-2023. The methodology is the systematic review and will be developed under a qualitative and bibliographic approach, for which academic repositories such as Scopus and WoS will be reviewed and analyzed. Within the discussion, the results obtained in relation to the stated objectives are addressed, these suggest that smart ports allow sustainable economic growth, optimize human welfare and have a positive impact on sustainable development. Finally, the conclusions section highlights the implications found after the literature review and the results, as well as recommendations regarding the exploration of this topic in future research.

Maritime transportation represents a significant part of international cargo transportation and ports need to be in constant evolution to remain competitive. Applying intelligence to the port's sectors turns possible to increase their efficiency. To facilitate the process of intelligence application in ports and terminals, a roadmap was structured. Through a literature review 9 steps for the roadmap were defined: definition of the elements, survey of smart practices, establishment of the desired state of smartness, analysis of the current state, selection of the tools, characterization of the intelligence levels, delimitation of the deadlines, cost analysis, and selection of the actors involved.
