Abstract: The Diaghilev Ballets Russes introduced its startled audiences to a revolutionary dance theatre. History recognizes Diaghilev and his collaborators as an indelible influence on the course of twentieth century dance; an influence reorienting ballet's goals as well as audience expectations.
