Abstract:We propose a simplified version of the Shifted Fracture Method (SFM), which relies on an approximate fracture geometry representation combined with approximate interface conditions. In particular, we show that the complexities of earlier SFM implementations, associated with the use of a mixed variational formulation of the equilibrium equations, can be avoided. This approach has minimal impact on the overall accuracy of numerical computations but leads to considerable gains in performance. These outcomes can b… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
