Without a doubt, encouraging the behavior of employees in relation to sustainability is one of the most effective tactics that organizations can use to attain their sustainability goals. It is critical that employees take part in sustainability projects in order for organizations to be successful. In this study, we assumed that organizations supported by responsible employees will be more likely to engage in sustainability-driven projects that affect their long-term viability and the interests of their stakeholders, and that green human resources management will be an encouraging factor. The purpose of this study was to investigate the involvement of employees in sustainability-driven projects within organizations, as well as the potential influence of such involvement on the performance of projects in emerging economies such as Turkey, where individual sensitivity to sustainability is lacking. With this goal in mind, we conducted a qualitative investigation on ten different employees from various corporate enterprises who were authorized to participate in sustainability-driven projects in their workplaces. Our results revealed that in the Turkish business environment, employees have still not reached the required level of maturity regarding sustainability issues in order to be initiators of sustainability projects. This study is the first to investigate the role of employees in sustainability-driven projects within the Turkish market.

PurposeThe study aims to work on two objectives, first to provide a theoretical foundation along with ongoing trend in the field of green human resource management (GHRM) and employee green creativity (EGC) in the hospitality and tourism industry. Second, the study also proposes a conceptual research model to understand the dynamics of the relationship between GHRM and EGC for future studies.Design/methodology/approachThe study uses multi-method approach, systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis is performed on published work on GHRM and EGC. This study initially shortlisted 52 publications from multiple databases, which was refined to 11 Scopus-indexed papers, which discussed both GHRM and EGC attributes in a hospitality context. VOSviewer and advance excel software's are being used to perform the analysis.FindingsThe systematic literature review concluded that very limited studies have been conducted on GHRM and EGC in the hospitality context and it has recently gained prominence during the covid pandemic. While bibliometric analysis also identified h-index authors with their co-authorship network, citations and keywords matrix and the changing trends in the domain of GHRM and EGC in hospitality and tourism industry. The analysis also highlights the individual and organisational factors influencing the relation between GHRM and EGC.Originality/valueThis study is the first to conduct a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis on GHRM and EGC in hospitality and tourism sector. Moreover the paper also provides researchers with an in-depth summary of the available literature and a blue print for future studies on GHRM and EGC.

Green human resource management (GHRM) has emerged as an essential strategy for achieving environmental sustainability within organizations. However, there remains a significant gap in understanding its direct impact on sustainable performance. This study seeks to address these gaps by investigating the relationship between GHRM and sustainable performance, with a focus on the mediating role of green innovation and the moderating influence of transformational leadership. A cross-sectional study was conducted among Malaysian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to explore the interrelationships between green HRM, green process and product innovation, sustainability, and the role of sustainable leadership. The study’s findings reveal a positive and significant relationship between green HRM practices and sustainability, encompassing environmental, economic, and social aspects. The findings suggest that management support for environmental initiatives is a critical factor in enhancing the effectiveness and spread of green innovations, emphasizing the importance of GHM in the broader context of organizational change and sustainability. In addition, the study underscores the critical role of transformative leadership in fostering sustainable practices, particularly the significant moderator role of responsible leadership in driving sustainable business practices. In summary, this study provides a roadmap for businesses, particularly SMEs, to leverage HGRM as a strategic tool in their pursuit of sustainability.
