The Sexual Arousal and Desire Inventory (SADI): A Multidimensional Scale to Assess Subjective Sexual Arousal and Desire

Abstract: Introduction Sexual arousal and desire are integral parts of the human sexual response that reflect physiological, emotional, and cognitive processes. Although subjective and physiological aspects of arousal and desire tend to be experienced concurrently, their differences become apparent in certain experimental and clinical populations in which one or more of these aspects are impaired. “…Sexual arousal is commonly considered to be a purely physiological response defined by increased autonomic activation that prepares the body for sexual activity, and can be contrasted with sexual desire; a psychological construct involving the "wanting" and "craving" of a sexual activity (Toledano & Pfaus, 2006). It is suggested that sexual arousal levels are affected by whether an erotic stimulus is sexually desired, which has led to the assumption that sexual arousal is an indicator of sexual desire (Rempel & Serafini, 1995).…”

“…The Sexual Arousal and Desire Inventory (SADI) refers to sexual desire as the force that motivates a person to initiate sexual behaviour and to sexual arousal as the physiological responses that accompany/follow sexual desire [31]. The measure is composed of four sexual arousal and desire factors: evaluative, physiological, motivational and negative.…”

The subjective part is related to an emotional state of arousal, including sexual thoughts and fantasies [50].…”
