The Screwball Bromance: Regression, Bisexuality, and Reconfigured Masculinity in Step Brothers

Abstract: This article argues that the 2008 movie Step Brothers subverts the classical form of the screwball comedy, which always presents the outcome of heterosexual marriage. Instead, Step Brothers presents a love story between the two main male characters. Despite its "low" comedic form, the film is ultimately a sophisticated rumination on the status of male love within 21st-century America as well as the latest iteration of the contemporary "bromance" film.
