Physical environment in higher education has been of interest since especially the beginning of the 21st century however very a few studies on this topic have been conducted for teacher education in Turkey. In this study, the main purposes were to identify the essential characteristics of physical environment to access quality teacher education and to discuss the importance and role of these physical characteristics for effective and efficient teacher education. A Delphi study with three phases was utilized as a research methodology. In the first phase of the study, data were obtained by one open ended question from 33 teacher candidates in three state and one private universities at Ankara and content analysis was used to analyze data. Then, the questionnaire developed according to the results of the first phase, was applied in two times in a one month interval. Data obtained by the second and the third phases of the study was analyzed by descriptive analysis and then, comparison between two applications was presented in the paper. As a result of the study, technology, ambient environment of the building and classrooms, the cleanliness of environment, the size of the classrooms, furniture and materials, spaces for social and academic activity were emerged as the most important physical characteristics. In discussion part, the importance and role of those places and physical characteristics for teacher education were discussed and presented.

A edificação de ensino é responsável por proporcionar ambientes de aprendizado e socialização. A escola deve articular o sistema de aprendizagem e a ambiência necessária para sua aplicação. A presente pesquisa tem o objetivo de analisar a arquitetura escolar e suas influencias na qualidade do ensino, no desempenho dos alunos, professores e colaboradores. Para tal, foi analisado o histórico da implantação da educação no Brasil até a atualidade. Além disso, foram investigadas as leis e parâmetros vigentes que regularizam a concepção de projetos escolares. A partir dos dados coletados foi possível constatar que as escolas brasileiras possuem grande déficit de conforto ambiental, o que demonstra a necessidade de revisões nos parâmetros de conforto ambiental aplicados nas construções de ensino. Observa-se ainda, que é preciso projetar escolas que atendam de maneira concreta o programa pedagógico, o programa de necessidades e as características climáticas de cada região, a fim de atender aos usuários e a comunidade para qual irá oferecer seus ofícios.

Children’s Microsystems and Their Relationship to Stress and Executive Functioning

Microsystems are described as contexts formed by a subject, their roles, their interactions, and a specific physical space and time, such as housing and the school environment. Although several studies suggest the importance of studying this type of environment and its repercussion on children's development, in a Latin American context, few studies integrate the interaction of two primary settings in the development of executive functioning. The present study explores the effects of the quality of housing and school environments on the perception of stress, decision making, and planning among children. A total of 114 children (43% girls and 57% boys, M age = 10.57) from a primary school located in a community classified as poor participated in the study. The following was measured: the environmental quality of classrooms, housing, stress, and executive functioning of children. The results reveal a model linking environmental quality levels in children's homes and schools and executive functioning. We also obtain a mediating role of stress between microsystems and performance, finding a deficit in executive performance when children experienced higher levels of stress as a result of poor environmental quality both in their homes and in their schools.
