“…These two genera had not previously been considered closely related. Dodge (1968) considered Dexosarcophaga more closely related to Oxysarcodexia . Lopes (1982b) included species of those two genera in two different tribes: Cuculomyiini and Raviniini, in which Oxyvinia was tentatively placed.…”

“…Table 4). We found four new genera and 18 new species during our research on Barro Colorado Island, Panama (Dodge, 1968), and we assume that collections from other areas will increase the number of new species. Most of the observed flies were definitely attracted to the swarm raids, for they were concentrated over the ants in numbers never encountered in general sweeping.…”

“…We were able to rear Notochaeta amphibiae and Notochaeta bufonivora from frogs which had been killed by E. burchellii. The high species diversity among the sarcophagids we found at Barro Colorado Island (Dodge, 1968) may suggest that some of these flesh flies have evolved to follow swarm raids to find the dead vertebrates the ants kill but do not eat. We assume that the sarcophagids larviposit on a variety of animals, including large arthropods the ants may not be able to carry off.…”

“…Xarcophaga was proposed by Dodge (1968) as a monotypic genus, including only the nominal species X. xon, and it was distinguished from Oxysarcodexia by the elongated and slender phallus, with a characteristic apical enlargement. Lopes (1975) redescribed Oxysarcodexia pallisteri Dodge, 1966, transferred X. xon Dodge, 1968 to Oxysarcodexia, and considered both to be closely related to O. favorabilis (Lopes, 1935) andO.…”
