The Safety of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in the Day Surgery Unit Comparing with That in the Inpatient Unit: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Abstract: We aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis on the safety of laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed in the day surgery unit versus those performed in the inpatient unit. Several databases including Ovid Embase, Medline Ovid, Cochrane Central, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were searched from inception through February 2019. Our results revealed that laparoscopic cholecystectomy can be conducted safely and effectively in day surgery units, helping bed shortage.

“…11 The aforementioned advantages indicate the beneficial use of mivacurium as an ideal NMBA in ambulatory surgery anesthesia, 12 such as in laparoscopic cholecystectomy, the removal of tracheal foreign bodies, the removal of vocal cord polyps, and pediatric surgery. [13][14][15] However, the clinical use of mivacurium is mainly applicable to the tracheal intubation phase of anesthesia induction, 16 and few clinical reports have described the application of mivacurium and the proper dose in ambulatory ophthalmic surgery. Therefore, we compared the neuromuscular blockade effect of three different maintenance doses of mivacurium to investigate its feasibility and the appropriate dose in ambulatory vitreoretinal surgery under general anesthesia.…”

“…El tratamiento de elección para el manejo de esta entidad es el abordaje quirúrgico, siendo la colecistectomía laparoscópica el patrón de oro, ya que ha demostrado una reducción significativa de los días de estancia postoperatoria, menor dolor postquirúrgico y una recuperación mucho más rápida comparada con el abordaje por vía abierta 11 .…”

“…In recent years, several systematic reviews and meta‐analyses have provided evidence from quantitative research on safety and patient satisfaction after various day surgery procedures (in example Bemelmans et al., 2022; Calkins et al., 2022; Derks et al., 2021; Ellinides et al., 2022; Goacher et al., 2022; Xiong et al., 2020). However, the body of evidence on how patients experience the recovery at home after day surgery has been scarce (Nilsson, Dahlberg, & Jaensson, 2019; Odom‐Forren et al., 2018).…”
