A hemorragia pós-parto (HPP) é definida como uma perda de sangue ≥ 500 mL que acontece nas 24 horas após o parto, quando essa perda é maior que 1.000 mL é considerada grave. A HPP está entre as principais causas de morbidades maternas graves, responsável por cerca de 25% de todas as mortes de gestantes no mundo, sobretudo em países de baixa renda. No Brasil ocupa a segunda maior causa de morte materna. Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar a produção científica acerca das intervenções utilizadas na prevenção e controle da hemorragia pós-parto. Tratou-se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica do tipo revisão integrativa da literatura, os estudos foram extraídos das bases de dados PubMed (National Library of Medicine); BVS (Biblioteca Virtual da Saúde) e CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature). Utilizou-se 14 estudos publicados nos anos de 2016 à 2021. O nível de evidencia predominante foi II - ensaio clínico randomizado, 11 estudos obtiveram grau de recomendação A. Os resultados concluem que, as intervenções analisadas como efetivas para a prevenção da hemorragia pós-parto foram: ocitocina, misoprostol, carbetocina, ergometrina ou metilergometrina, o manejo ativo no terceiro período do trabalho de parto e a ligadura da artéria uterina. No controle da HPP foram: o ácido tranexâmico, tamponamento com balão uterino (BTU) e o traje anti-choque não pneumático (NASG).

Oxytocin over centuries has always been regarded as the drug of paramount importance during childbirth. Oxytocin, a peptide hormone facilitates parturition and breastfeeding. These nine amino acid peptides have presently been found to be associated with a wide variety of pathophysiological functions associated with social behaviours. It has been recently recognised as an important modulator of human social behaviour. Its correlation as a common factor important in various neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, personality disorders and autism, mood and anxiety disorders has been highlighted. Anticipatory role of oxytocin in osteoporosis, diabetes and cancer has been coaxing the researchers for developing new therapeutic modalities. Over a course of past 100 years, oxytocin has come a long way from being an insipid agent used as an aid in labour and delivery to the drug of neuropsychiatric conditions. This review article summarises the varied functions of oxytocin, its apt dosing when used therapeutically and reinforcement of development of new lines of treatment involving the use of oxytocin and antagonists for multiple human disorders.

Introduction: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the leading cause of maternal mortality and is mainly treated with contraceptive drugs. The aim of research was to compare Carbetocin versus Ergometrine in women who undergo caesarian section. Methodology: A single blind comparative prospective study was conducted at the G.N.M.A. "Elena Venizelou". The sample of the study consisted of 100 women of interest, who were randomly assigned to receive either Carbetocin or Ergometrine. The majority of the sample had not had a caesarean section in the past. Hematocrit levels, platelet count, blood loss, side effects, and frequency of rescue therapy were compared between the 2 groups. Results: The Carbetocin group had 52 interest rates and the Ergometrine group 48. There was a statistically lower blood loss in the Carbetocin group (p = 0.035). There were no statistically significant differences in hematocrit levels, platelet count, side effects and frequency of rescue therapy between the 2 groups (p> 0.05).The presence of a side effect was associated with greater blood loss (p≤0,017). The application of rescue therapy was associated with higher hematocrit levels before drug administration (p = 0.005) and greater reduction after administration (p = 0.007) as well as greater blood loss (p <0.001). Conclusions: Carbetocin resulted in statistically less blood loss compared to Ergometrine, and showed similar results in terms of side effects and the application of rescue therapy. More randomized clinical trials are needed to determine the appropriate choice of contraceptive drugs in women who undergo a cesarean section.
