“…This is associated with a longer period of impact of progesterone on the endometrium during the diestrus [13,38,43]. In the literature, many studies describing abnormal endometrial hyperplasia, in relation to diseases like CEH, mark also a likelihood of its progress to lifethreatening stages [8,33,36,38,39,[42][43][44][45]. Cysts developing in the endometrium classi ed as CEH differ signi cantly in terms of number, size, distribution and histomorphology [36].…”

“…Repeated progesterone influence during each metoestrus in cycling bitches leads to the gradual development of CEH, fluid accumulation and/or bacterial infection, with the most severe end stage being pyometra. Progesterone, especially after previous oestrogen influence, contributes to the development of disease because the influence of this hormone renders the uterus susceptible to bacterial infection and pyometra (22,23). There are contradictory results regarding the benefit of ovariectomy performed together with mastectomy as well as the connection of abnormal oestrous cycle, false pregnancy, pregnancy, number of litters etc.…”

“…Lymphatic cysts are extremely rare in the bitch or queen. Although cystic endometrial hyperplasia (CEH) occurs in both the queen and bitch, it is much more common in the bitch, perhaps because of the longer periods during which the endometrium is under progesterone influence (Chen et al 2006).…”

“…This lesion results from marked exuberant growth of the endometrium in either a diffuse or segmental pattern with marked resemblance to the material tissues beneath the normal canine zonary placenta. There is evidence that mild irritation, possibly associated with low-grade bacterial infection, is sufficient to initiate this proliferative chain of events but only when the endometrium is under the influence of progestagens (Nomura and Funahashi 1999;Noakes et al 2001;Chen et al 2006).…”
