The role of Zeb1 in the pathogenesis of morbidly adherent placenta

Abstract: Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1 (Zeb1) is a promoter of epithelial-mesenchymal transformation, which may serve an important role in morbidly adherent placenta (MAP). In the present study, the protein expression levels of Zeb1 were examined in the placenta tissues of 60 patients, including 20 patients with placenta accreta (PA) and 20 patients with placenta previa without PA (UPA) and 20 patients in late pregnancy that delivered by cesarean section (normal). The expression levels of Zeb1, N-cadherin, vascu… Show more

“…The simultaneous up-regulation of p21 and Cyclin D1 has been shown also in senescent cells ( 82 , 83 ). Consistent with our study Li et al ( 26 ) reported that Cyclin D1 was up-regulated in Placenta accreta . The result that pRb was significantly decreased in late AIP placentas compared to late gestational age-matched controls could contribute to cellular senescence in late AIP.…”

“…Ray J et al ( 25 ) found that in vitro differentiation from CTB to STB coincided with a decrease in cyclin E1, which is a G1/S phase cell cycle regulator that can inhibit cell cycle progression ( 25 ). Previous studies also reported that the AKT signaling pathway is involved in the invasion process as well as cell migration which have a relationship with the placenta diseases PE and AIP ( 19 , 26 , 27 ).…”

“…Previous studies demonstrated that the 5′-flanking region of the N-cadherin gene contains several putative transcriptional regulatory elements, such as E-box and Sp1 [ 26 ]. Slug, ZEB1 and Twist1 transcriptional factors are known to bind to E-box elements and promote N-cadherin expression [ [27] , [28] , [29] ]. However, mRNA levels of these transcriptional factors were not decreased in Cre; PKN2 flox/flox cells compared to PKN2 flox/flox cells ( Supplementary Fig.…”

“…Pregnant women with placenta previa are prone to vaginal bleeding. Clinically, placenta previa is divided into pernicious placenta previa (PPP) and non-dangerous placenta previa [2] . PPP refers to the placenta attached to the scar of the previous cesarean section, or the placenta previa with placenta accreta or placental adhesions.…”
