“…In addition to negative associations with neuroticism, measures of ego strength reflect good adjustment and overall mental health. For instance, higher ego strength is related to lower scores on depression (Sheppard, Llanos, Hurtado-de-Mendoza, Taylor, & Adams-Campbell, 2013) and suicidal ideation (Damirchi, Mohammadi, & Amir, 2019). Ego strength also has been related to more tolerance of self and others, resourcefulness, perceived worth and equality with others (Harmon, 1980), a personal growth orientation, purpose in life, self-acceptance (Ziadni, Jasinski, Labouvie-Vief, & Lumley, 2017), feelings of social connection (Damirchi et al, 2019), and perceived ability to cope with stressful life situations using both correlational (Edgar, Rosberger, & Nowlis, 1992) and experimental (Margolis, 1970) methodologies.…”
