The Role of the Cardiac Biomarkers in the Renal Cell Carcinoma Multidisciplinary Management

Abstract: Renal cell carcinoma, an aggressive malignancy, is often incidentally diagnosed. The patient remains asymptomatic to the late stage of the disease, when the local or distant metastases are already present. Surgical treatment remains the choice for these patients, although the plan must adapt to the characteristics of the patients and the extension of the neoplasm. Systemic therapy is sometimes needed. It includes immunotherapy, target therapy, or both, with a high level of toxicity. Cardiac biomarkers have pro… Show more

“…The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) 2022 cardio-oncology guideline recommended the baseline clinical and biomarkers assessment of the patient diagnosed with cancer [10]. Multidisciplinary monitoring during the specific treatments was also proposed [10,11]. The ESC 2022 cardio-oncology guideline emphasized the high incidence of VTE among cancer patients and recommended imaging screening in patients with clinically suspected VTE [10].…”

“…Elevated hs-TnT levels were associated with shorter time to surgery and with increased myocardial mass in AS patients, indicating that hs-TnT could be a potential biomarker for determining the time of surgical intervention in AS patients [132]. Clinicians must be aware that both natriuretic peptides and troponins may be elevated due to other extracardiac diseases, such as cancer [133].…”
