The Role of Phytochemicals in the Inflammatory Phase of Wound Healing

Abstract: Historically, plant-based products have been the basis of medicine since before the advent of modern Western medicine. Wound dressings made of honey, curcumin and other phytochemical-rich compounds have been traditionally used. Recently, the mechanisms behind many of these traditional therapies have come to light. In this review, we show that in the context of wound healing, there is a global theme of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant phytochemicals in traditional medicine. Although promising, we discuss the l… Show more

“…The effects of inflammation on wound healing are complex; appropriate inflammation is helpful for wound healing, but the inflammation caused by depression appears to have a negative effect on wound healing. This study observed that, during the healing process, inflammatory cytokines in the inflammatory responses were significantly elevated by depression.…”

“…Many clinical studies have also found that the presence of adverse emotions during treatment is unfavorable for wound healing, but no study has clarified the mechanism involved . The role of the inflammatory response in wound healing has long been recognized by clinicians . Therefore, this study aims to explore whether depression affects the healing of wounds via inflammation; we hope to explain the effects of adverse emotions on wound healing and the underlying mechanisms.…”

“…These results showed that delay wound healing appeared in diabetic mice and con rmed that the model in this experiment was successfully prepared. Wound healing in DM mice can be improved by DE It has been reported that phytochemicals could play a role in wound healing 24 . In order to test whether DE can improve diabetic wound healing, excisional wounding were administration and topical use at day1.…”
