The Role of PEG on Pd- and Cu-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling Reactions

Abstract: Carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom coupling reactions are among the most important transformations in organic synthesis as they enable complex structures to be formed from readily available compounds under different routes and conditions. Several metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions have been developed creating many efficient methods accessible for the direct formation of new bonds between differently hybridized carbon atoms.During the last decade, much effort has been devoted towards improvement of the s… Show more

“…303 A variety of relatively low molecular weight PEG oligomers are applicable as a solvent for cross-coupling reactions, and the higher molecular weight polymers can be used as additives and catalyst supports. 304,305 When Nobre et al used a mixed PEG-methanol reaction solvent for Suzuki reactions, immiscible non-polar solvents could be used to extract the product, avoiding an aqueous-organic separation. 306 Heptane was used as the extraction solvent, and minimised leaching of palladium into the product.…”

“…Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) oligomers are efficient, eco-friendly, and low-volatility liquids with a broad spectrum of chemical, industrial, and medical applications [ 63 ]. PEGs are readily miscible with water and polar organic solvents but immiscible with nonpolar organic solvents, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and supercritical CO 2 .…”
