MCM-41/CeO 2 and MCM-48/CeO 2 were synthesized by direct and indirect methods in solvent media and by grinding method in a solvent-free media. The materials prepared by grinding method are characterized by X-ray diffraction, infrared spectrum analysis, and N 2 adsorption and desorption. Surface areas and pore size of MCM-48 /CeO 2 were obtained with values of 680.9 m 2 Ág −1 and 1.64 nm, respectively, by BET method. The results showed that CeO 2 nanoparticles were introduced into MCM-41 and MCM-48, and there was formation of CeO 2 crystallites as secondary phase in the extra framework of MCM-41 and MCM-48. MCM-41/CeO 2 and MCM-48/CeO 2 materials are used as photocatalysts in degradation of Congo red as a dye pollutant. The MCM-41/CeO 2 and MCM-48/CeO 2 prepared by grinding method showed the higher photoreactivity with 97.6 % and 93.1 %, respectively, of degradation of Congo red. The higher photoreactivity is due to the complete incorporation of cerium ions in mesoporous material of MCMs in a solvent-free media.

The influence of the precursors on the promoting effect of ceria on Pd/Al 2 O 3 catalyst, when ceria is coated over alumina was studied. The reaction of propane oxidation proceeded under different feed conditions and the surface active sites were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and in situ diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS).XPS and DRS results show that PdO/Pd 0 interface are the active sites independent of the precursor, while the catalysts containing CeO 2 showed formation of palladium species in the highest oxidation state, probably PdO 2 (338 eV) after the oxidation of propane. Besides, the O/Al and O/Ce ratios evidenced the increase of oxygen storage in the presence of CeO 2 . In addition, the precursor acetylacetonate favors the oxygen storage in the lattice.

The present work highlights the influence of ceria over vanadia/alumina for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene with CO 2 as a soft oxidant. Various weight loadings (0, 3, 5, and 7 %) of ceria were incorporated into 10wt % V 2 O 5 /Al 2 O 3 catalyst by wet impregnation process. Structural and textural characterizations of the catalysts were performed by means of powder X-ray diffraction, temperature-programmed reduction, temperature-programmed desorption of CO 2 , N 2 adsorption-desorption analysis. Over 10 % V 2 O 5 /Al 2 O 3 , ethylbenzene conversion decreases from 62 to 49 % in a spam of 12 h. Ceria-incorporated catalyst (3 % CeO 2 /10 % V 2 O 5 /Al 2 O 3 ) showed steady ethylbenzene conversion of nearly 65 % with a styrene selectivity of 96 % for a period of 12 h time. Improved catalytic activity observed on this catalyst can be attributed to the increase in the number of redox/active VO x species after incorporation of ceria. The redox properties of 3 % CeO 2 /10 % V 2 O 5 /Al 2 O 3 and 10wt % V 2 O 5 /Al 2 O 3 were examined by reaction of CO 2 in pulses on to the partially reduced catalysts. The spent catalysts were characterized using XRD & TPR analysis to assess the reason for the deactivation of catalysts.
