The Role of Organomodified DifferentLDHson Recycled Poly(ethylene terephthalate) Nanocomposites

Abstract: Recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate)/organomodified‐layered double hydroxide (PET/organo‐LDH) nanocomposites were successfully synthesized via a melt‐extrusion method. In an attempt to improve the compatibility with PET, LiAl, MgAl, and ZnAl LDH surfaces were modified with sulfanilic acid (SAS) via electrostatic interaction with LDH cationic layers. In PET nanocomposites containing SAS‐modified LDH, the (00l) X‐ray diffraction (XRD) peaks originating from organo‐LDH were not observed, indicating that the orga… Show more

“…The peak of ZnAl‐LDH at 1366 cm −1 is attributed to the CO 3 2− , which shows the existence of CO 3 2− in the interlayer . Also, the peaks at 783 cm −1 and 545 cm −1 are attributed to ZnO and OAlO, respectively . These peaks evidently confirm the synthesis of ZnAl‐CO 3 ‐LDH.…”

“…To achieve the result of using increasing fractions of rPET without adding virgin material, it is mandatory to increase the mechanical properties of the polymer with the incorporation of low cost, commercially available nanoparticles/nanofillers [4]. There are many examples available in the literature dealing with the selection of unmodified or chemically modified layered nanoclays [5][6][7].…”
