The Role of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography in the Diagnosis and Management of Acute Vogt–Koyanagi–Harada Disease

Abstract: OCTA allows high-resolution imaging of inflammatory foci suggestive of choriocapillaris hypoperfusion in acute VKH disease non-invasively. OCTA may be very helpful in the follow-up of such patients.

“…In the index study, we have described the differentiating features of VKH and CSC in the acute stage using the non-invasive technique of OCTA and en face OCT. OCTA has been recently shown to be an effective tool to identify the changes at the level of choriocapillaris in acute VKH and in monitoring the disease resolution, recurrence, and persistence in conjunction with clinical examination and other multimodal imaging techniques by our group [17]. In the present study, en face OCTA images in the acute stage of VKH showed multiple dark foci of flow void suggestive of choriocapillaris hypoperfusion which were variable in shape and size (20 eyes; 100%).…”

“…We were able to confirm this similar finding on a 3 × 3 mm grid. Similar mentions on choroidal vasculature has also been mentioned in cases of VKH and has been mentioned that they are more pronounced during the acute stage of the disease …”

“…Similar mentions on choroidal vasculature has also been mentioned in cases of VKH and has been mentioned that they are more pronounced during the acute stage of the disease. 18 Infrared imaging of the retina and choroid revealed a mottled appearance of the fundus after normalization of the retinal and choroidal thickness. On evaluation of these spots on OCT cross sections, they revealed bumps in the RPE and Bruch's membrane with some causing disorganization of the ellipsoid layer.…”
