“…Miller and Stoddard (1981) have studied the development of garnet in a series of strongly peraluminous muscovite-biotite and muscovite-garnet granites from the Old Woman-Piute Range, California and have found that the development of garnet was accompanied by an increase in the molar Mn/(Fe + Mg) ratio of the rock However, no similar differentiation sequence is seen in the Cairngorm pluton--indeed, the lack of a clear differentiation sequence in the pluton is one of its most striking features, despite the variety of granitic rock types present. Clearly, the development of the garnet must be attributed to more localized controls over the concentration of Mn in the melt.…”
