The role of magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of fetuses with congenital diaphragmatic hernia

Abstract: In recent years, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has largely increased our knowledge and predictive accuracy of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) in the fetus. Thanks to its technical advantages, better anatomical definition, and superiority in fetal lung volume estimation, fetal MRI has been demonstrated to be superior to 2D and 3D ultrasound alone in CDH diagnosis and outcome prediction. This is of crucial importance for prenatal counseling, risk stratification, and decision-making approach. Furthermore… Show more

“…After the implementation of the comprehensive nursing mode, the nursing efficiency has been improved, the nursing cost has been reduced, and the satisfaction of patients' families and the cure rate of patients have also been significantly improved, which shows that the comprehensive nursing mode has obvious advantages and effects in improving the quality of nursing services, optimizing the utilization of resources and enhancing the satisfaction of patients and their families [10]. However, further in-depth research and continuous monitoring are needed to continuously improve and perfect the comprehensive nursing model to ensure the continuous provision of high-quality nursing services and meet the needs of patients and their families.…”

“…12 Fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays a crucial role in better evaluation of the contents within the chest and fetal lungs in the USG-detected CDH and is required and also carried out with increasing frequency. 12,13 The diagnosis of late/delayed-presenting CDH can be confirmed by a plain radiograph of the chest and abdomen demonstrating the presence of the bowel gas pattern within the chest. Insertion of a nasogastric tube prior to the skiagram of a chest and abdomen is also helpful for detecting gastric air bubbles within the chest cavity.…”

“…Fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) enhances prenatal CDH evaluation through high anatomic specificity of the diaphragmatic defect, hernia location, content, and alteration in other fetal organs [ 10 12 ]. Therefore, it could be considered the most reliable technique to assess lung hypoplasia and calculate the observed/expected total fetal lung volume (O/E TFLV) [ 13 ].…”
