The role of impurities in thermally stimulated luminescence of MgO:Mn2+ and MgO:V2+ crystals irradiated in a reactor

Abstract: The high‐temperature thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) of nominally pure MgO crystals and MgO crystals with excessive amounts of paramagnetic manganese and vanadium ions irradiated in a reactor has been studied. It was observed that the influence of impurity on the TSL of crystal is different at low and relatively high doses. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

“…The linear response was confirmed the tested range and calculated coefficient of determinations of 0.001, 0.01 and 0.1 % Crdoped MgO are 0.9759, 0.9815 and 0.9649, respectively. It is an equivalent sensitivity with commercial personal dosimeters and the highest sensitivity for MgO among the earlier reported works we could find [46][47][48]. Dosimeter having a linear response is advantageous because it enables us to easily and accurately calibrate the dose.…”

“…The spectral analysis of the TSL peak at 450 K carried out by interference filters showed its complex nature [3]. This is caused, at least, by two factors: by structural defects of vacancy type (emission at 405 nm and 514 nm that refers to F + -and F-centers, respectively) and by impurity ions (emission at 457 nm, 617 nm, and 660 nm caused by the ions of transition metals 2+…”
