Numerous economies focus on attaining a clean environment by applying environmental policies and green technology. This study examined the impact of GDP growth, non-renewable, technological change, environmental tax, and strict regulations on an ecological footprint for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and Non-OECD (not members of OECD) economies from 1990 to 2015. This analysis applied the Cross-Sectionally Augmented Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag (CS-ARDL) to identify the role of GDP, and environmental taxes, with selected control factors on ecological degradation. These CS-ARDL techniques resolve the issues of slope heterogeneity, endogeneity, and cross-sectional dependence. For robustness, this study used Augmented Mean Group (AMG), and Common Correlated Effect Mean Group (CCEMG) tests to check the long-run association between variables. The empirical findings of CS-ARDL have confirmed that environmental taxes, stringent environmental policies, and ecological innovation significantly improve environmental quality in OECD compared to the Non-OECD countries. The D-H panel Granger causality test results show the unidirectional causality moving from environmental tax to ecological footprint, which referred to the “green dividend” hypothesis of minimizing environmental degradation. Using AMG and CCEMG tests for Robustness checks indicates that environmental taxes and tight environmental policy can effectively improve the environment’s quality in both regions. Hence, environmental protection awareness is forcing policymakers to minimize the impact of environmental degradation to achieve sustainable growth.

Drawing on a theoretical integration perspective, this research responds to the latest calls in sustainability accounting by comprehensively exploring the moderating roles of two board sub‐committees: the nomination committee and the risk management committee, in the relationship between corporate eco‐innovation and carbon performance. This study contributes to the current literature in sustainability accounting by utilizing panel data from non‐financial listed firms on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) for the period spanning from 2011 to 2022. To mitigate potential endogeneity bias, various econometric techniques, including instrumental variable modeling, were employed. The robust findings confirm a positive and statistically significant relationship between eco‐innovation and carbon emissions reduction. Moreover, both the nomination committee and the risk management committee emerge as significant moderators of this relationship. These empirical findings hold valuable practical, theoretical, and policy implications for diverse stakeholders seeking a comprehensive understanding of the role of board sub‐committees as effective monitoring tools that support corporate carbon performance by encouraging firms to actively embrace eco‐innovation practices. As a result, our evidence underscores the significance of giving due attention to board sub‐committees when configuring the board's structure and setting expectations for carbon reduction performance.

The growing concerns of environmental degradation call for attaining higher green growth (GRG) in both developing and developed countries. Therefore, achieving a higher GRG has been a main concern of policymakers worldwide. To this end, a comprehensive policy framework is needed to attain higher level of GRG and sustainable development goals (SDGs). In doing so, this study is an earliest attempt that investigates the impact of economic policy uncertainty, green innovation and financial development on GRG using the data of selected fragile countries during 1996–2019. For this purpose, we use different preliminary tests for checking the reliability of the data and panel quantile regression for testing the association among the variables. The empirical results indicate that economic policy uncertainty, green innovation and financial development contribute to the growth of green economy. The positive association of economic policy uncertainty with GRG is due to the decline in investment and overall energy consumption pattern. Based on the empirical results, this study proposes some policy implications to achieve higher level of GRG and different targets of SDG 08 (economic growth), SDG 09 (innovations), and SDG 13 (climate change).
