The role of genes involved in lipolysis on weight loss program in overweight and obese individuals

Abstract: The ability of obese people to reduce weight in the same treatment varied. Genetic make up as well as the behavioral changes are important for the successfulness of the program. One of the most proposed genetic variations that have been reported in many intervention studies was genes that control lipolysis process. This review summarizes studies that were done showing the influence of genetic polymorphisms in lipolysis pathway and weight loss in a weight loss treatment program. Some studies had shown that cert… Show more

“…Polymorphisms in PLIN and ADRB3 use to produce alteration in lipolysis mechanism (i.e. decreasing it) [ 41 ] whereas treatment with GC and GNN have demonstrated to produce loss weight particularly increasing lipolysis [ 42 ]. Thus, it would be reasonable to hypothesize that a reduction in lipolysis rate in patients with these polymorphisms might have hampered the lipolysis effect trigger by GC and GNN influencing the outcome of the treatment.…”

“…PLIN gene codified perilipin 1 protein that is phosphorylated by protein kinasa A. Perilipin 1 phosphorylation facilitates the action of hormone sensitive lipase, an enzyme that play a key role in lipolysis. Several polymorphisms in this gene has been associated to obesity [ 41 , 43 ]. Thus, patients carriers of PLIN1 (6209 T > C; rs2289487) and PLIN6 (14995A > T; rs1052700) polymorphism have shown to response better to anti-obesity treatment [ 16 ].…”

“…Regression analysis showed statistically significant correlation between training load and fat stores, but also that the daily workout load represented 56% of the statistical model, which clearly indicates that, despite having the training load as an influencing factor among men, other factors are involved in the body composition response to physical training. In fact, this evidence is not surprising, since the literature has shown that several physiological [8], genetic [11] and behavioral [26] factors participate in the body composition.…”

“…W jednym z badań określono związek między polimorfizmem genu dla syntetazy acylo-CoA izoformy 5 a szybką utratą wagi u kobiet kaukaskich [2]. Istnieją publikacje podkreślające rolę genów zaangażowanych w lipolizę w przebiegu procesu utraty wagi [3]. Jednym z kluczowych enzymów odpowiadających za aktywację kwasów tłuszczowych, niezbędną do włączenia ich we wszystkie przemiany, jest syntetaza acylo-CoA [4].…”
