The Role of Fluorine in F-La/TiO2 Photocatalysts on Photocatalytic Decomposition of Methanol-Water Solution

Abstract: F-La/TiO2 photocatalysts were studied in photocatalytic decomposition water-methanol solution. The structural, textural, optical, and electronic properties of F-La/TiO2 photocatalysts were studied by combination of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), nitrogen physisorption, Ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS), Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and X-ray fluorescence (XPS). The production of hydrogen in the presence of 2.8F-La/TiO2 was nearly up to 3 times higher than in th… Show more

“…where A is a constant of proportionality depending on the material, hυ is the photon energy, and n is a constant that depends on the nature of the transition (2 for an indirect allowed transition and 1/2 for a direct allowed transition). e sample is found to depict an indirect optical band gap, and the extrapolation of the (αh]) 0.5 vs. h] slope (inset of Figure 4) to the zero value of (αh]) 0.5 gives an indirect optical band gap energy of 3.82 eV, affirming the semiconductor behavior of the sample [27,28]. Table 2: e equations and their plot parameters of kinetic models.…”

“…On the other hand, methanol is one of the most popular solvents used in industry and its release to the environment is hazardous. One of the methods of its disposal could be its use as a sacrificial reagent in photodecomposition of a mixture of water and methanol [36,37]. This reaction was used in our study for evaluation of the photocatalytic activity of carbon nitride.…”

“…The inset shows that only a weak peak at 855.9 eV was observed in the Ni 2P 3/2 spectrum of Ni 2+ ion [11] due to its low doping. As shown in Figure 4b, the peaks at 458.6 eV and 464.4 eV were indexed to Ti 2P 3/2 and Ti 2P 1/2 peaks, respectively, indicating the presence of Ti 4+ state on the nanostructure surface [51]. In Figure 4c, the Si 2p peak at 102.8 eV exhibited a negative shift compared to the Si 2p peak of silica gel (103.3 eV), indicating the formation of Si-O-Ti bonds in the nanostructure and consequently confirming a successful doping of Si in TiO 2 lattice [52].…”
