Abstract:<p>Debris flows are subaerial, gravity-driven mass movements of water, soil and rocks. &#160;High fluid volume fractions and the presence of a wide particle-size distribution lead to highly heterogeneous flow states, and the mechanisms giving rise to this phenomenology open to debate. For tractable modelling, assumptions around the interaction between grains and fluid must be made, but it is not clear whether those assumptions are reasonable across the wide range of length-scales observed… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
