“…This is in accordance with a previous publication [16] in which we found that the non-selective antagonist of endothelin receptors (Bosentan), significantly reduced (56%) the lung concentration of endothelins. In both studies ETs were measured in homogenates of lung tissue of C57Bl/6.…”

“…This indicates that there is a basal production of endothelins in the lung and that there is a turnover of endothelin synthesis and degradation, where endothelins exert a positive feedback on their synthesis. However, this effect seems to be strain-dependent since in the previous study this feedback was not observed in BALB/c mice [16]. Surprisingly, the concentration of endothelins in whole lung homogenates did not increase after antigen challenge of sensitized mice, compared to control mice (sensitized and not challenged) or to naive mice.…”

“…Previous comparisons of responsiveness between C57BL/6 and BALB/c mice were also performed in lung isolated perfusion system ( Held and Uhlig, 2000 ; Landgraf and Jancar, 2008 ). While the lung from BALB/c mice was more responsive than the lung from C57BL/6 mice in one study ( Held and Uhlig, 2000 ), the other study showed the opposite ( Landgraf and Jancar, 2008 ).…”

While the lung from BALB/c mice was more responsive than the lung from C57BL/6 mice in one study ( Held and Uhlig, 2000 ), the other study showed the opposite ( Landgraf and Jancar, 2008 ). The increased responsiveness in the former was not restricted to methacholine, as the lung of BALB/c mice was also more responsive to endothelin-1 and the thromboxane A 2 analog U-46619 ( Held and Uhlig, 2000 ).…”
