Abstract:Protein Tyrosine Kinases (PTKs) are enzymes with a major regulatory role in a variety of biological processes. Their activity is counteracted by Protein Tyrosine Phosphatases (PTPs). The interaction of these two enzymatic groups reversibly modifies the transcriptional and posttranscriptional status of protein targets. This is responsible for regulating fundamental signal transduction pathways in physiological and pathological contexts. PTPs are divided into four classes based on their biochemical structure, wi… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
