Background: Baduanjin is an ancient technique of physical and breathing exercises (Dao Yin). This technique is divided into eight sections and each section is a motion, so it is called “Baduanjin”. It is practice without equipment, simple and easy to learn, whose effect is significant leading to good fitness effect. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease. Clinical studies have reported that Baduanjin can affect the metabolism of blood glucose and blood lipid in diabetic patients, but the reported efficacy is different among different studies. Therefore, the study is aimed to systematically evaluate the size and differences of the impact of Baduanjin on the metabolism of glucose and lipid in diabetic patients. Methods: Retrieved randomized controlled trials(RCTs) on effects of Baduanjin on glucose and lipid metabolism in diabetic patients from PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, Embase, CNKI with computer while mutually retrieved the same things from Chinese Clinical Trial Registry(ChiCTR), Google Academic and Baidu Academic. The retrieval time was from their establishment to October 2020. Then 2 researchers independently extracted relevant data and evaluated the quality of the included literatures, and meta-analysis was conducted on the included literatures using RevMan5.3. Results: This research used outcome indicators like fasting blood glucose, postprandial blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, total cholesterol content and triglyceride content to explore the effect of Baduanjin on glucose and lipid metabolism in diabetic patients specifically. Conclusion: The research will provide reliable evidence-based proof for Baduanjin improving glucose and lipid metabolism of diabetic patients. Ethics and dissemination: Private information from individuals will not be published. This systematic review also does not involve endangering participant rights. Ethical approval was not required. Purpose The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether thyroid hormone in euthyroid patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with macrovascular complications. Patients and Methods The authors examined 311 patients enrolled from February 2019 to December 2019 in Tianjin Medical University Chu Hsien-I Memorial Hospital. A medical record review enabled the collection of demographic and anthropometric information. We classified the patients into two groups based on the echocardiography and vascular ultrasonography results, namely, non-macrovascular complications (n=131) group and macrovascular complications (n=180) group. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated, adjusting for potential confounders, the prevalence of macrovascular complications was determined using multivariate logistic regression. Results A significant association was observed for diabetic macrovascular complications with normal free triiodothyronine (FT3) (OR=0.534, 95% CI 0.358–0.796, p = 0.002) and free thyroxine (FT4) (OR= 0.844, 95% CI 0.760–0.937, p = 0.001). Nevertheless, there was no evidence of any association between thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and the development of diabetic macrovascular complications. When stratified by the body mass index (BMI), a similar relationship existed with the overall results. The positive association remained in restricted analyses involving only patients with HbA1c abnormalities. Conclusion Overweight or obese T2DM patients are at high risk due to the implicit association between low but clinically normal thyroid hormone levels and elevated risk of macrovascular complications. However, there were no statistically significant associations between TSH and diabetic macrovascular complications.

Erjing prescription (EJP) was an ancient formula that was recorded in the General Medical Collection of Royal Benevolence of the Song Dynasty. It has been frequently used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the long history of China. The formula consists of Lycium barbarum L. and Polygonatum sibiricum F. Delaroche with a ratio of 1 : 1. This study aimed to identify the potential effects and mechanisms of EJP treatment T2DM. The target proteins and possible pathways of EJP in T2DM treatment were investigated by the approach of network pharmacology and real-time PCR (RT-PCR). 99 diabetes-related proteins were regulated by 56 bioactive constituents in EJP in 26 signal pathways by Cytoscape determination. According to GO analysis, 606 genes entries have been enriched. The PPI network suggested that AKT1, EGF, EGFR, MAPK1, and GSK3β proteins were core genes. Among the 26 signal pathways, the PI3K-AKT signal pathway was tested by the RT-PCR. The expression level of PI3K p85, AKT1, GSK3β, and Myc mRNA of this pathway was regulated by EJP. The study based on network pharmacology and RT-PCR analysis revealed that the blood sugar level was regulated by EJP via regulating the PI3K-AKT signal pathway. Plenty of new treatment methods for T2DM using EJP were provided by network pharmacology analysis.
