The Role of Cross-sectional Imaging in Male Infertility: A Pictorial Review

Abstract: Infertility is a common problem. The role of imaging in assisting clinical evaluation is discussed. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging are first-line, noninvasive imaging techniques that provide accurate definition of anatomical causes of infertility. This affords an opportunity to deliver timely and appropriate treatment. This pictorial review illustrates normal imaging anatomy and various causes of male infertility, and focuses on congenital and acquired testicular abnormalities and post-testicular ob… Show more

“…[10] The SVs and the VD can also be affected by TB, and cross-sectional images show wall thickening, contraction, or intraluminal or wall calcifications. [11] With the improvement of resolution of ultrasonic diagnostic equipment, all parts of the seminal canal can be optimally displayed on US, [12] which makes ultrasonic diagnosis of VD disease a new choice. Inhomogeneity, hypoechoic or hyperechoic pattern, coarse epididymal calcifications, or epididymal hyperemia, which are considered typical CDUS features of chronic epididymitis.…”

“…Elle est supé rieure à l'é chographie endorectale pour appré cier l'anatomie des voies sé minales profondes (dé fé rents, ampoules dé fé rentielles, canaux é jaculateurs) en raison d'un meilleur contraste des tissus mous et d'une possibilité d'acquisition multiplanaire [2,3]. Une image IRM peut enfin servir à guider un geste thé rapeutique interventionnel.…”
