With a varied landscape, Wales is resource rich in terms of wind and water and a suitable location to develop many different forms of sustainable energy. Whilst farm businesses face increasing challenges in terms of economic stability and traditional production methods, this paper considers the role of renewable energy production as a form of diversification. The study adopts mixed methods as a means of undertaking an in-depth investigation into the role of renewable energy generation in supporting agribusinesses in Wales. Initially a questionnaire obtained 118 responses from farmers in Wales. Subsequently, 15 follow-up semi-structured interviews with farmers were conducted to further investigate the issues from the initial questionnaire. The theoretical contribution of this paper is a segmentation of farmer businesses which allows for distinctions to be made of different attitudes to off-farm income and the adoption of renewable energy sources. Five farm types were identified, varying in relation to farm characteristics, attitudes to diversification, access to renewable energy and resource allocation. These farm types highlight the need for specific policies towards facilitating the increase in renewable energy along with sustaining farming incomes. Furthermore the research provides valuable information to the farming industry on opportunities in renewable energy production, particularly for farmers and farm businesses who are considering diversification strategies.

This paper contributes to the controversy that exists among scholars on the link between agriculture and economic growth. Although there is much literature on the importance of the agricultural sector for economic growth, there is a lack of empirical evidence regarding the Arab World. This paper is one of the very few studies which examine the causality between agriculture and economic growth in a selection of eight Arab countries using time series econometric methods. Time series data from 1980-2018 are employed in this study which is obtained from the official website of the World Bank. However, agriculture is a variable of interest, exports and terms of trade are also included in the estimated models as additional determinants of economic growth. Both the Johansen test and the autoregressive distributed lag bound test are used to study the cointegration between agriculture and economic growth. The results suggest that agriculture could be used as an engine to promote economic growth for some Arab countries since a long-run relationship exists between the variables. Therefore, these countries would be able to enhance the value-added of agriculture through further investment in this sector. However, the direction of the causal relationship between agriculture and economic growth varies across countries. In most Arab countries, the economic growth could be used as a catalyst for growth in the agricultural sector since the direction of causality is from economic growth towards agriculture.

Penyuluhan merupakan salah satu bagian subsistem kelembagaan yang berperan dalam keberhasilan usahatani. Keberhasilan penyuluhan dapat diukur melalui tingkat kepuasan petaniterhadap kinerja penyuluh pertanian dalam upaya meningkatkan kapabilitas petani. Tujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis tingkat kesesuaian antara tingkat kepentingan terhadap tingkat kinerja pada atribut-atribut kinerja penyuluh pertanian dan tingkat kepuasan petani terhadap kinerja penyuluh pertanian. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada tanggal 13 Desember 2019 – 13 Januari 2020 di Desa Senden, Selo, Boyolali. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan simple random sampling dengan jumlah sampel 86 responden. Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa tingkat kesesuaian tertinggi terletak pada kemampuan penyuluh menerima pertanyaan langsung dan mampu menjawab pertanyaan dari petani dengan nilai kesesuaian sebesar 93,15%. Hasil analisis Importance Perfomance Analysis (IPA) menunjukkan bahwa kuadran II merupakan kuadran dominan pada atribut kinerja penyuluh pertanian yang terdiri atas enam atribut. Pada hasil analisis Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) sebesar 74,09% atau 0,7409 yang menunjukkan bahwa petani merasa puas terhadap kinerja penyuluh pertanian.
