“…These findings were similar to those of Artinian et al (1993), Barnason et al (2000), and Guadagnoli et al (1992), who reported that cardiac-related symptoms after CABG surgery and physical, psychological, or social recovery outcomes did not vary by age. However, findings from this study differed from others (Allen et al, 1998;Carroll, 1993;Gortner et al, 1988;Gortner, Dirks, & Wolfe, 1992;Redeker et al, 1995;Sauve & Fortin, 1996;Yates & Belknap, 1991), who found that being younger was a predictor of improvement in physical and psychological functioning in CABG patients. Thus, the association between age and negative mood states and age and recovery symptoms after cardiac surgery requires further study to clearly delineate these associations.…”
