The ro-vibrational Raman spectrum of water vapour υ2 and 2υ2

Abstract: Weak spectral features in the Raman spectrum of water vapour associated with the v2 and 2v2 vibrations have been observed. These features have been reproduced by computer simulation using the results of high resolution absorption spectral analyses. Relative intensity measurements allow the determination of the cross section, depolarization ratio and ratio of the two non-vanishing second-order irreducible spherical tensor components for vs. From these quantities, the principal components of the v2 derived polar… Show more

“…The m 2 Raman band of H 2 O has been analyzed previously in terms of factorized rotational  vibrational wavefunctions, along with an effective transition moment of the polarizabilty [3]. We show here how this scheme is unable to properly account for several spectral features induced by the rotational-vibrational coupling.…”

“…Most details of the Q branch of 1 , and many other details of the O, P, R, and S branches of 1 and 3 remained therefore unresolved. Within these limitations, a successful analysis of the spectra was carried out in the frame of the theory of the Raman intensities for asymmetric top molecules (2)(3)(4). High-resolution investigations of the Raman spectrum of water vapor, using nonlinear techniques, have been published too (5)(6)(7).…”

“…Raman data for the bending mode (ν 2 band) by Murphy (1977) for H 2 O, and infrared data by Gupta (1981) for D 2 O. The vibration wavenumbers for H 2 O and D 2 O in vapor phase, the frequency ratios, and the RPFR for the ν 1 , ν 2 , and ν 3 modes are shown in Table 3.…”

“…The vibration wavenumbers for water vapor used for the calculation of the RPFR, were taken from the literature (Fraley and Narahari Rao, 1969;Murphy, 1977;Gupta, 1981), and are shown in Table 3. Table 2).…”
