The rise of developmental biology in China

Abstract: The developmental biology community is growing rapidly in China. Here, we will discuss the past, present and future of developmental biology in China to gain an overview. Brief information about the related societies and current government funding support will be given. Research spotlights and several technical advances during the last decade or so will be presented. Lastly, the current trends in developmental biology studies in China will be discussed.

“…Over the past two decades, researchers have extensively studied the molecular functioning, pheromone pathways, reproductive behaviour and evolutionary neurobiology of the OS in insects (Wei et al, 2017). In addition, the use of technologies such as the clusters of regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR/Cas9) has accompanied in a new era in insect developmental biology (Bai et al, 2019; Chen, Lei, et al, 2021; Gui et al, 2020; Huang et al, 2022; Taning et al, 2017; Zhao et al, 2019). Among these scientific studies, the in vivo and the in vitro regulation of chemicals perceived by the OS of insects predominantly related to insect communication has garnered significant attention.…”

“…The diploidization of haploid cells is an interesting biological phenomenon and has been widely studied, but the mechanism of diploidization has not yet been fully resolved ( Sun et al., 2020 ). The zebrafish is an excellent vertebrate animal model used in biological studies ( Huang et al., 2022 ). Researchers have isolated many cell lines from zebrafish, such as the zebrafish fibroblast line ZF4 ( Driever and Rangini, 1993 ).…”
