“…Gibberellic acid (GA 3 ) has been shown to delay maturation of peach (Amarante et al 2005;Ju et al 1999;Martínez-Romero et al 2000) and other fruit (Ben-Arie et al 1996;Ferri et al 2004;Zilkah et al 1997) and in some cases, has also been associated with the prevention of chilling injuries (Amarante et al 2005;Lurie and Crisosto 2005;Pegoraro et al 2010b). The mechanism of GA 3 action seems to vary according with the species involved.…”

“…The effects of GA 3 on fruit ripening and quality in the current year have been reported previously (Zilkah et al, 1997). These authors achieved a delay in maturation and in the development of internal breakdown in storage, with 70 mg l -1 GA 3 applied at the end of pit-hardening.…”

“…Internal quality was assessed by monitoring the occurrence of flesh bleeding and/or flesh breakdown, expressed as the percentage of damaged fruit (Zilkah et al, 1997).…”

“…As regard to gibberellic acid effects on fruit weight, volumes and dimensions, the obtained results were in agreement with those obtained by Abd El-Megeed et al (2007) using gibberellic acid and boron on "Canino" apricot and with those reported by Canli & Orhan (2009) of applying gibberellic acid on sweet cherry. However, GA 3 application may stimulate cell expansion and thus increase fruit weight (Zilkah et al, 1997). Zhiguo et al (1999) stated that GA 3 application can delay fruit maturation on the tree, increase fruit weight and prolong the marketing season by four weeks.…”
