The Resource-Based View Within the Conversation of Strategic Management

Abstract

McCloskey (1985) persuasively argues that ‘good science is good conversation.’ The resource-based view is good management science, properly speaking, because it stimulates good conversation within the strategic management field. The resource-based approach (Penrose, 1959; Wemetfelt, 1984) is attracting the attention of a growing number of researchers precisely because the framework encourages a dialogue between scholars from a variety of perspectives. The purpose of this paper is to coalesce and sustain this conversation.
