THE RESIDUAL p-n INTERACTION IN ODD-ODD DEFORMED NUCLEI

Abstract: The residual p-n interaction in doubly odd deformed nuclei is examined in the framework of the unified model. Extensive experimental information about the Gallagher-Moszkowski splitting energies and Newby shifts in the rare-earth and actinide regions is used to deduce empirical parameters of the residual p-n interaction. Delta interaction and Gaussian-shape radial potential are assumed, Empirical p-n parameters are discussed and compared with previously deduced parameters. For the first time, errors in the par… Show more

“…Reasonable values for the parameters uc and ut were found to be uo = -7.2 MeV and ut = -0.80 MeV. The spin-spin strength parameter ut has been estimated from a fit to available GM splittings [ 29,301, and a relative strength of the two terms ~0 : ~11 = 9 : 1 is suggested from an analysis of p-n multiplets in spherical odd-odd nuclei [ 31,321. For the bands considered here, which have wavefunctions of about 65% n-hgp @ z@,3p character, uc and ur can also be estimated directly from the splitting of the spherical n-hg/z@ vi13/2 multiplet in 208Bi [ 331, which leads to values about half as large as cited above.…”

“…[7], have been included in the well-known residual NN-interaction data evaluations [24,[28][29][30], extended to include the data on some oddodd iridium isotopes in [31]. The present work provides a valuable additional information for the study of residual NN-interaction in nuclei belonging to the deformation phase transition region.…”

“…In principle the model parameters (e.g., E GM , 2 /2I, E N , etc) can be evaluated theoretically [15,35]. But in the semiempirical approach adopted here [16,[28][29][30][31][32] we use the experimental data in any odd-odd neighbor wherein a specific 2qp band, expected in 240 Np, has been experimentally identified.…”
