Background. As the problem of adaptation to diabetes management in chronic diseases prevents the success of treatment, it causes the disease process to progress negatively, other diseases and deaths to develop and the costs of the disease to increase. Type 2 diabetes mellitus treatment in Turkey concerns the rate of individuals with low compliance and continuity of the disease. In a study of 1,456 individuals with diabetes treated with insulin throughout Turkey, 29.7 % of patients reported that they did not adhere to the prescribed drug regimen. This study was designed to investigate the validity and reliability of the Diabetes Medication Self-Efficacy Scale. Materials and methods. The study was constituted with 197 individuals, who admitted to endocrinology outpatient clinic of a University Hospital between May and June 2019, and had diabetes diagnosis for at least one year and agreed to participate in the research. The descriptive and confirmatory factor analysis and Cronbach’s alpha internal consistency analysis were used during the Turkish adaptation phase of the Diabetes Medication Self-Efficacy Scale. Results. As a result of the analysis, the scale was determined to be consisted of 19 items and three sub-dimensions and explained 68.472 % of the total variance. Cronbach’s alpha values for the whole scale and its sub-scales were 0.94, 0.89, 0.85, and 0.93, respectively. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to verify the 3-factor structure of the scale. According to the confirmatory factor analysis results, χ2/SD = 3.22 was found to be less than the acceptable reference value of 5. This finding shows that the data are compatible with the model. In addition, the other results were as follows: RMSEA = 0.070, PNFI = 0.82, CFI = 0.99, RMR = 0.27, GFI = 0.94, AGFI = 0.88 and PGFI = 0.61. When we look at these values, they are appeared to be in good alignment. Conclusions. This reliable, validated and standardized 19-item 5-point Likert type scale can be used to determine the medication self-efficacy for patients with diabetes in society.

Background Fibromyalgia is a syndrome characterized by chronic widespread pain accompanied by fatigue, disrupted sleep quality, cognitive impairments, subjective soft tissue swelling, and somatic symptoms. There are conflicting results in the literature regarding the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in fibromyalgia patients and the reduction of symptoms after supplementation. Aims Our study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and reliability of vitamin D supplementation in patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Methods In our cross-sectional clinical study, 180 female patients aged 18 to 65 diagnosed with fibromyalgia according to the 2010 American College of Rheumatology Diagnostic Criteria were included. Oral vitamin D3 replacement of 50,000 IU was administered for 12 weeks. Patients' Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ)and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores were evaluated before and after the study. Results Significant differences were observed in the FIQ scores of the 180 fibromyalgia patients before and after vitamin D supplementation (p < 0.05). There was also a significant improvement in VAS scores (p < 0.01). A negative correlation between vitamin D and VAS as well as FIQ scores was found in the study. Conclusion We determined that vitamin D deficiency is significantly more prevalent in patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Vitamin D supplementation was observed to have a positive effect on quality of life and reduction of pain.

Objectives: Although there are studies in the literature about how Behçet's disease is affected in the presence of fibromyalgia, there is no information about how the severity of fibromyalgia is in the presence of Behçet's disease. This study aims to evaluate the severity of fibromyalgia by comparing the impact of fibromyalgia and pain thresholds between fibromyalgia patients with and without Behçet's disease. Methods: Twenty-five fibromyalgia patients with Behçet's disease and 34 primary fibromyalgia patients were included in this cross-sectional study. All participants completed the fibromyalgia impact questionnaire, and pain thresholds were measured at 18 tender points using algometry. Results: The mean fibromyalgia impact questionnaire scores in fibromyalgia patients with and without Behçet's disease were 66.6 ± 18.4 and 60.4 ± 14.5, respectively (p = 0.157). Pain thresholds were not different between the groups in 15 of the 18 tender points (TP). In fibromyalgia patients with Behçet's disease, pain thresholds in TP-15, TP-16 and TP-17 were 11.44 ± 4.84, 11.92 ± 5.00 and 15.16 ± 4.89 pounds, respectively, while in primary fibromyalgia patients those were 8.41 ± 2.68, 8.14 ± 2.76 and 12.14 ± 4.06 pounds respectively. Pain thresholds in TP-15, TP-16 and TP-17 were significantly different between the groups (p = 0.003, p = 0.003, p = 0.014, respectively). Conclusions: According to the literature data, although fibromyalgia has an effect on Behçet's disease, especially in cases associated with central sensitization syndromes, the severity of fibromyalgia was not found to be different in fibromyalgia patients with and without Behçet's disease in this study. There may be a relationship between Behçet's disease and fibromyalgia due to non-inflammatory causes such as central sensitization.
