The Relevance of Nuclear Reactions for Standard Solar Models Construction

Abstract: The fundamental processes by which nuclear energy is generated in the Sun have been known for many years. However, continuous progress in areas such as neutrino experiments, stellar spectroscopy and helioseismic data and techniques requires ever more accurate and precise determination of nuclear reaction cross sections, a fundamental physical input for solar models. In this work, we review the current status of (standard) solar models and present a complete discussion on the relevance of nuclear reactions for … Show more

“…The value of the exponent, α = 0.716, is specific to BX (CN). Analogous relations can be easily obtained (70,71) for future detectors simply by determining ξ and α according to the differential sensitivity of the detector to ( 13 N) and ( 15 O). If future experiments allow separate measurements of ( 13 N) and ( 15 O), the difference ( 13 N) − ( 15 O) can be used to determine the C abundance independently of N, which can then also be determined.…”

“…The external peak in its distribution is produced by the production of N from primordial C in the Sun. It is therefore proportional to the C abundance and is largely independent of environmental factors and uncertainty in the 12 C(p, γ ) 13 N reaction (71). The second, inner peak comes from the CN cycle operating in steady state, which depends not only on the total abundance of C+N but also on the temperature of the solar core-that is, it is affected by environmental factors.…”

“…It is not the purpose of this work to explore the uncertainties affecting each of the reactions in the pp chains and CNO cycle. a recent investigation of the dependence of neutrino fluxes predicted by models on abundances, central temperatures and S-factors is presented in Villante & Serenelli (2021). Their work is based on linear pertubations of standard solar models and allows for the consideration of dependences on an extended number of nuclear reactions.…”
