The relaxant action of hymecromone and lignocaine on induced spasm of the bile duct sphincter.

Abstract: The retained stone in the common bile duct remains a problem for the surgeon. Although more effective methods are available, mechanical flushing of the bile duct is, when successful, a simple solution. Pharmacological dilatation of the sphincter of Oddi is a logical adjunct to flushing. Pressure changes in the bile duct during flushing were studied in 20 postoperative patients with T‐tube drains and the effectiveness of two drugs in reducing Omnopon induced spasm of the sphincter was compared. Hymecromone intr… Show more

“…We have chosen to reexamine 4MU and its conjugates, and we have performed rat liver perfusion experiments aimed at identifying the influence of binding and permeation characteristics on the extent of futile cycling between the drug and its metabolites. 4MU (Hymercromone, 7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin) is a choleretic agent (16)(17)(18) whose action is attributed mainly to its glucuronide conjugate (4MUG). Besides glucuronidation, 4MU is also known to form a sulfate conjugate (4MUS) in most animal species (19)(20)(21)(22)(23).…”

“…To evaluate this, we characterized the composition, rheological properties (e.g., viscosity and elasticity properties), and cytokine/chemokine profiles of respiratory secretions from patients under mechanical ventilation due to severe COVID-19, given the importance of these parameters in other respiratory diseases (32,33). As controls for these studies, we have included sputum samples from both healthy individuals and patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) (34), a genetic disease associated with notoriously thick lung secretions (35). These studies provide biochemical, biophysical, and immunological assessment of respiratory secretions in COVID-19.…”
