The Relative Strengths of Some Hydrocarbon Derivatives of Boric Acid

Abstract: Yol. 56were designed, however, for a different purpose, and are not as well adapted for extrapolation, 0.0 0.2 reaction V02+ + 2H+ + e = VO + + + H20 has been determined as 0.9996 volt. Berkeley, Calif.

“…Therefore, the percentage of 4-iodophenol in its ionized form is 19.4% at pH 8.6. The pKa values of 6biphenylboronic acid (in 50% EtOH) and 4-bromophenylboronic acid (in 52% EtOH) are 10.80 and 9.14, respectively (16,17). According to these pKa values, the approximate percentage of the compounds in their ionized forms at pH 8.6 is about 0.63% for 4-biphenylboronic acid and 22.4% for 4-bromophenylboronic acid.…”

“…In order for diol-containing compounds to interact with PBA it is necessary that the boron be in a negatively-charged, tetrahedral form (Yurkevitch et al, 1975). Since the pK, of the immobilized PBA is 9.2 (Maestas et al, 1980), or 8.86 in free solution (Yabroff et al, 1934), buffer experiments were restricted to the pH range 7.8-9.6. At higher pH values, haemoglobin binding and stability were reduced, whereas at low pH values, non-specific binding increased and results were too sensitive to small changes in pH to give a useful clinical assay.…”

“…All amidine derivatives, L-arginine and sodium benzoate, used here, were commercial products of the highest available purity./3-Phenylethylboronic acid was prepared as in [9,10]. The pH of all inhibitor solutions was adjusted to 7.4 with HC1 or NaOH prior to the assay.…”
