“…If taken as presumably intended-that neither drug produced psychological disturbance in healthy volunteersthen the results may have relevance for medical use in a non-psychiatric population. However this paper has been interpreted by others as support for the conclusion that metoclopramide is devoid of antischizophrenic activity (see, for example Robinson, Berney, Mishra & Sulser, 1979). While little useful comment can be made about anti-schizophrenic actions from healthy volunteer studies, such studies are of some use in providing information about acute toxicity and pharmacokinetics (Tyrer, 1976 (Marsden, Mindham & Mackay, 1981).…”

“…The only compound tested in this model so far which fulfills this requirement is proprano lol. This might look as a surprise in the first moment but involvement of a noradrenaline receptor blockade in the antipsychotic action of several neuroleptics has been dis cussed repeatedly [Robinson et al, 1979] and last but not least, Elizur et al [ 1979] not only referred to a number of successful treatments of schizophrenics with (3-blockers but themselves were able to cure 4 out of 10 chronic otherwise untreatable schizophrenics successfully by the application of propranolol. Anyway the presented model should allow to screen for the hypothetically desired effects on the dopaminergic impulse flow.…”
