The Relationships of the Maxillary Sinus With the Superior Alveolar Nerves and Vessels as Demonstrated by Cone‐Beam CT Combined With μ‐CT and Histological Analyses

Abstract: There are no available detailed data on the three-dimensional courses of the human superior alveolar nerves and vessels. This study aimed to clarify the relationships of the maxillary sinus with the superior alveolar nerves and vessels using cone-beam computed tomography (CT) combined with l-CT and histological analyses. Digital imaging and communication in medicine data obtained from the scanned heads/maxillae of cadavers used for undergraduate/postgraduate dissection practice and skulls using cone-beam CT we… Show more

“…The occurrence of hypoesthesia of the upper incisors and the upper jaw is explained by the course of the superior medial alveolar nerve in the mucosa of the anterior maxillary sinus wall. Originating from the infraorbital nerve, it communicates with the superior anterior and posterior alveolar nerve and then forms the superior dental plexus, which innervates these areas [73,74,75,76]. The drilling of the bone or resection of soft tissue in this area consequently leads to sensory deficits.…”

“…El conducto alveolar superior posterior (CASP) y el conducto alveolar superior anterior (CASA) forman una anastomosis intraósea (AIO) localizada en el maxilar superior 1 . Estos conductos son atravesados por paquetes neurovasculares: ramos de los nervios maxilares superiores del trigémino, ramas de la arteria y vena maxilar interna 2 .…”
